Children may need speech or language therapy if they are difficult to
understand, are stuttering, have difficulty understanding what is said
to them, are having trouble learning to read, don’t understand what they
read, or seem to have difficulty expressing themselves or organizing
their thoughts. Young children may not be talking as well or as much as
their peers.
Adults may have lost their ability to communicate as a result of a head
injury, stroke, neuromuscular disease progression, or head or neck
cancer surgery. The names of things may be difficult to recall, the
language may be confused or unclear, and/or the speech difficult to
understand.
Nonverbal individuals or individuals whose speech is very difficult to
understand may benefit from a voice-output augmentative
communication device.
